Q: I have a big goal. So why does it still feel like something isn’t working?
A: It’s not just about having a high-achieving goal. It’s about whether your daily actions actually match it.
Goal-setting is one thing. Goal-serving is another.
You can set the most ambitious, exciting goal imaginable — and still find yourself stuck, frustrated, and wondering why you’re not getting there. The goal itself is not enough. What matters is whether what you’re doing every day is actually moving you towards it.
In sport and performance psychology, when our goals and our actions don’t match up, that gap is called dissonance. And dissonance is uncomfortable. It shows up as anxiety, frustration, a nagging sense that something is off — even when you can’t quite put your finger on what.
The good news? Once you can see the gap, you can do something about it. The first step is simply being willing to look.
